    Kentucky State Police at Morehead and Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt are investigating the death of Timothy Scott Riggs, 28, of Morehead.

  • Perkins to be interim mayor
    Morehead City Council member David Perkins will serve as interim mayor effective Dec. 10.

  • Historical school burns
    A historic Rowan County landmark was destroyed by fire early Friday morning. The old Haldeman School was engulfed by flames around 4 a.m. with several stations reporting.   • Breaking News: County workers laid off 1-2-07
    When four Rowan County magistrates didn’t agree with Judge-executive Jim Nickell’s recommendations for county employees Tuesday, close to 30 county employees were handed layoff slips.
    According to Nickell, Nick Caudill, Troy Perkins, Jerry Flannery and Ray White, did not approve with Nickell’s list of county employees, which caused the sudden layoffs.

    As of Wednesday at noon, county workers remained off the job until further notice.
